A Memorial Match, Phenomenal fundraising, & our Harry hit em’ for 6! Howzat!

Euro Catering are proud Sponsors of Bitteswell Cricket Club, which is located in Bitteswell near Lutterworth, Leicestershire. Our Parts & Warehouse/Install Manager, Harry Charlton has played at the club since a junior and has also captained the 1XI senior league team from 2013-2019 and still currently plays for the 1XI. Harry recently had a game to remember where he scored 92 off 45 balls, including hitting 32 off one over! Director of Euro Catering, and Mum to Harry – Mel Charlton was spectating for that game, which doesn’t get to happen often. She clearly brought him good luck!

The Club held a memorial cricket match on July 2nd to remember their Chairman and close friend Peter Smith, who sadly passed away in late June 2022. For the last six decades he had worked tirelessly to provide cricket for the local community, so a day to celebrate and honour memory was fittingly created.

Taking an excerpt from the clubs Just Giving page, they noted the following about Peter and the memorial match – “He played, coached and prepared the pitches at Bitteswell devoting hours of work to ensure that the local cricketing community, young and old, could enjoy the sport he loved.

He was known across the Leicestershire cricket community and was liked by all, whether you were a team mate or an opponent. For the last 10-20 years Big Pete has been pivotal to the development making a massive contribution but sadly, last year he was unexpectedly taken from those that knew and loved him.

The memorial match is focused on raising funds for Hope for Cancer, a Leicester based charity that is close to the hearts of both Pete’s family and all of us at Bitteswell Cricket Club.”

The Club also gave an update following on the event – “Sunday was a huge success. As this was the first time we had run this event, we were delighted with how the day went and have been overwhelmed with the amount of support we had on the day.”

All funds raised will be donated to Hope for Cancer, a Leicester based charity that is close to the hearts of both Pete’s family and everyone at Bitteswell Cricket Club. Hope for Cancer have currently raised over £7 million and funded over 100 research projects tackling many forms of cancer. They have also opened a clinical trials unit at Leicester Royal Infirmary, where patients take part in trials on new drugs and treatments to find the cures of tomorrow.  They also fully fund a HOPE nurse there.

Even though they have now surpassed their target, any further donations are most welcome and would be greatly appreciated. You can follow the below link to make a donation –
