Euro Catering’s sales director, Justin Towns, hasn’t just been fishing for orders, having bagged a whopping barbel and been present to witness another fish of a lifetime by Stockport fishing enthusiast Jerry Gleeson, head chef at The Printers Arms.
Justin won a two-day barbel fishing experience with Jerry Gleeson at a charity auction, as Jerry has been a monumental fundraiser for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. He headed out with the chef to the tidal River Trent at Sutton, knowing the venue had quite a good reputation for big fish.
Whilst the air temperature was just above freezing on arrival, and the fishing hard on day one, day two was a different matter. Justin fished on his own, with Jerry on hand a short distance away, and was thrilled when a rather heavy tug on his line signalled the arrival of what proved to be a 14lb 2oz whopper of a barbel.
Meanwhile, things weren’t going as well for Jerry, until he decided to test the theory that this stretch of river was frequented by chub. He mixed up some black pudding, burgers and sausage, adding some Pandemic glug bait aid and set up his line. Just five minutes later, he reeled in a personal best sized chub weighing 7lb 3oz.
Justin Towns says: “I was delighted with my barbel catch, but being there to see Jerry catch a type of fish he’d never seen at Sutton before was truly spectacular. The fish must have really loved his tasty leftovers.”
The only thing that’s not as clear is whether Justin managed to sell Jerry anything from Euro Catering’s extensive online portfolio of catering equipment, showcased at www.euro-catering.co.uk, to reel in yet another pub caterer as a customer.
